REBUILDING OUR COMMUNITY Dear Friend, The community is disheartened by the economic condition of our country, and the declining status of our cities. The housing, job and youth crisis have impacted residents of most communities in one way or another, Garfield Heights being no exception. Residents fondly remember the days of old: where their homes had greater value, they felt safe in public places, and they had a vibrant community center in Garfield Heights. So much has changed, and our attitudes towards our role in the community must change as well. Our federal, state and local governments are responding to these crises, and so must we. Our school districts and public entities are adapting to these crises, and we must do the same. We must quickly come the realization that if our community, and ultimately our country, is to be rebuilt---it must start with each and every one of us. We all play a valuable role. Word of Righteousness Family Life Center looks forward to doing its part. As most of you are aware, the Roosevelt Elementary School (formerly known as Garfield Heights Community Center) has become Word of Righteousness Family Life Center. This new development brings forth hope for the community as we collectively aspire to ensure that:
* There will be a woman who can feed her five children healthy well-balanced meals. * There will be a child that isn't home alone after school, but instead is receiving careful quality care. * There will be a teen with summer employment who is motivated to pursue their goals. * There will be a proud man that has learned to read and can better provide for his family. * There will be a senior citizen that has found joy in life once again and is actively connected to the community. There will be Word of Righteousness Family Life Center...so that generations to come will have a place where they can enjoy life and live it more abundantly. We firmly believe that this is possible because of our deep faith in God, and our belief in the product of passion, sheer determination, and hard work. Moreover, we know that these objectives are attainable with your support. We humbly ask you to become a part of the Rebuilding Our Community campaign today. Together we can build our community up again one step at a time. We will begin with a community improvement project to rebuild our center from the inside out. We will continue with developing programs and services that meet the most urgent community needs. We will enhance the quality of life for our neighbors, in turn making our community secure and strong again. With your help we can Rebuild Our Community. There are many ways to support our cause. A tax-deductible donation, of any amount, can be made at any US Bank to the “Word of Righteousness Family Life Center” fund. Checks made payable to: “Word of Righteousness Family Life Center” can be mailed to: W.O.R.F.L.C., P.O. Box, 25584, Cleveland, Ohio 44125. Financial contributions can also be made online from our Donations page. You can maximize your gift by asking your employer about “matching contribution” funds. In-kind donations to defray expenditures (such as cleaning supplies, painting supplies, riding lawnmowers, etc.) are also greatly needed and appreciated. In addition, as a grassroots nonprofit, volunteer opportunities abound. Volunteers are needed to beautify the center by planting, landscaping, cleaning, painting, repairing and more. Skilled volunteers are needed to repair computers, erect signage, refinish basketball courts and more. If you have an interest in serving the community at WORFLC, please download and complete the volunteer application on our Opportunities page. It’s time to actively become involved in the effort to Rebuild Our Community. Also, your feedback is very important to us. We want to hear about your memories of the former elementary school and community center. We want to know which programs and services are needed by your household most. We want to develop a dialogue with you and keep you informed of progress made in the cause. Please leave us your comments, join our mailing list, and follow us on Facebook…all of which can be done from our Contact page. Last, but certainly not least, as a faith-based organization, we ask for your continued prayers and support to fuel our volunteers and staff with the encouragement and energy needed to advance our cause. We know that our community is ready for change. We know that our community is willing to do its part. We are committed to Rebuilding Our Community, and appreciate your partnership in these efforts. We look forward to serving together for decades to come. Very truly yours, Alicia M.
